Xylem a stool or side table?
Jul 10th, 2009 by neil

Below are some quick shots of the second prototype of my new stool come side table called Xylem.

Xylem is 350mm high and 380mm x 300mm on top. The legs spread out by a further 40mm in each direction. Xylem takes its name and inspiration from the shape of trees hence the name (xylem is the woody part of the tree).

The leaves were created by drilling more than 3000 holes in the top and sides of the Xylem stool / side table (a slow process).

Xylem is held together through finger joints and glue. The finish on the prototype below is a vegetable water based non toxic finish to seal it off.

Xylem can comfortably be sat or stood on and is very stable.

Helloooo

Well Hello World.

The labK blog is just beginning.

I will endeavour to post regularly about what it is that I am working on and things that I find of interest.

LabK is about making things both on the net and out in the real world. So I make/design/build websites, make objects (at the moment I am working on a new stool design) and do general graphics work, for example logos, books, magazines and corporate work.

I have been designing and making stuff professionally for about 20 years now and have been playing with computers for over 25.
